Girls Get Active Day Blacktown was held on the 11th September at Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope.
The cohesion on the day between the Leisure Centre, Womensport NSW, Blacktown Council, the athletes, the schools and the state sporting bodies was very successful.
The MC for the day Sarah Koen from Triathlon NSW hosted a great discussion between the female athletes on the panel and the school girls. The girls were able to ask questions to the female athletes and get an understanding of who they are and how they got to be an elite athlete.
Schools included on the day were:
- Blacktown Girls High School
- Riverstone High School
- Wyndham College
The Sporting activities held on the day include:
- Surf life Saving water and land skills
- Triathlon skills e.g cycling and obstacle courses
- State Emergency Service (SES) water and land skills
Overall it was a very successful day where by all the girls got involved and had fun whilst engaging and talking to female elite athletes. The athletes included were:
- Katie Williams (Surf Life Saving)
- Jocelyn Bartram (Hockey)
- Erin Osbourne (Cricket)
- Sophie Halpin (NSW Swifts player)
The SES and Surf Life Saving played a great role on the day with the first time having water sports included in a Girls Get Active Day. The girls were able to learn great life skills in regard to water safety and emergency situations.
