The Parramatta Celebrating Girls in Sport Festival was held on Thursday 20th November at the Northcott Centre. Womensport NSW partnered with Prramatta Council and the Australian Sports Commission to host the day.It was a successful day with school girls from around the area participating in eight different sports. The girls also had the opportunity to hear from elite athletes on a panel including Alex Blackwell (Cricket), Paige Hadley (Netball) and Hanna Sio (Rugby Union). The panel also featured Nikki Horton, General Manager Netball NSW and Renee O’Callahan, Director of the National Participation Outcome’s Team- Australian Sports Commission.The Master of Ceremonies was Councillor Loarraine Wearne from Parramatta Council.
Sports included: AFL, Basketball, Fencing, Self Defence, Cricket, Netball, NRL and Football.
The girls had the privilege to participate in sporting activity stations run by the Western Sydney Wanderers, Parramatta Eels, Cricket NSW, Sydney Swifts and the Sydney Flames.
