The Leadership Program, established by Chief Executive Women (CEW), aims to prepare, educate and equip women to be ready and confident to apply for Executive, Management and Board positions.
This highly regarded program has been created by CEW to help organisations create an environment that encourages the development and retention of talented women.
Through partnership with CEW, Womensport NSW, is able to offer women who are in sport leadership positions the opportunity to increase their own and their organisations ability to be more effective in the sporting marketplace and deliver better results to their sporting communities.
The Leadership Course aims to encourage participants to take a leadership role to support the development of women within organisations; gain a better understanding or organisational cultures and how to operate successfully in different environment; encourage each participant to identify areas for personal and professional development.
This program will benefit sporting organisations by helping to correct gender imbalance and drive a more equitable focus on female participation in sport. The partnerships we are currently building with sporting organisations to help promote female engagement in their sport will be enhanced through the Leadership Program, which will enable them to identify and support female employees and develop them for leadership positions.
In 2012 Womensport NSW placed three women from Cricket NSW, two women from Netball NSW, in 2013 participants from Gymnastics NSW and Football NSW attended. 2014 saw participants from Rugby Union and Cricket NSW take part and currently we have a staff member from AFL NSW/ACT and a representative from Royal Sydney Golf Club participating in 2015.

Nikki Horton, General Manager Sport Development, Netball NSW. (2012 Program):
“The program exceeded my expectations for professional development. I was so pleased I was able to invest my time in it. Being part of the program gives you a little more self- belief.”
Belinda Woolford, Head of Communications & Marketing, Football NSW. (2013 Program):
“ I’m loving it. I have never done a course like this before and it is great to learn from how others deal with management issues and hearing stories from a non- sporting environment. The issues are similar but we are getting the benefit of broader experiences. It is an excellent mix of presenters and the chance to participate in smaller working group discussions.”
