Susan Horwitz – President
Susan is an experienced publisher with strong commercial management and corporate experience in media, the arts and communications. She is a director of Horwitz Publications Pty Ltd, and for many years oversaw and championed the publication of a diverse range of popular books and consumer magazines, including Golf Australia and Inside Sport titles.
Throughout her career Susan has always been closely aligned with advancing women’s issues. Until recently she was Vice President of Chief Executive Women and Chair of Chief Executive Women’s NSW Events Committee.
Before joining Horwitz, Susan co-founded a not-for-profit radio production centre in the USA, which sought and provided funding, training and production facilities for women and minorities. Her business experience here and abroad has highlighted to her the vigilance required to support female talent. Apart from her own personal abiding interest in most sports, Susan believes there are leadership, health, educative and disciplinary benefits in encouraging women and girls to participate in sport and recreation. Susan has held previous directorships in several media and arts companies.
Susan is currently a ‘Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Patron of Sculpture by the Sea and a Life Member of Northcott Disability Services, NSW.
Susan was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2003 for services to Australian society in business leadership
Amanda Spalding – Vice President
Director of Corporate Services,TAFE Western, Orange, NSW
Amanda is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years’ Executive Management experience in the public sector in England and Australia and has been a director of several companies including Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.
She is the Director of Corporate Services at TAFE Western, which serves more than half of NSW, and is the biggest trainer of Aboriginal people in Australia. She has also been an Executive Director and Chief Information Officer in the NSW Government, and has been the CEO of two not for profit companies.
She worked at a senior level in English local government for many years before coming to Australia in 1998 where she has been a Director at Parramatta, Manly and Rockdale City Councils in Sydney.
Amanda has also been the CEO of management consultancy Darrell Hair Associates and the CEO of the NSW local government professional association LGMA NSW.
Amanda leads the Womensport NSW Strategic Partnerships with Local Government project which is funded by the Minister for Sport and Recreation’s Strategic Partnership Fund.
Amanda is the only woman ever elected to the Board of Nottinghamshire Cricket Club in the UK, where she was responsible for significant improvements in governance and accountability to the members. Amanda was a swimmer and water polo player in the very early days of Women’s Water Polo in the UK.
Michelle Boon – Treasurer
Michelle is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is currently employed by Swimming NSW in the role of Finance Manager. She has held the position of Treasurer for WRNSW since 2005, and is a lover of all sports, and particularly enjoys watching rugby league, tennis and swimming.
Sarina Jackson – Director
Sarina is the managing Partner in the Sydney office of Douros Jackson lawyers, she has been a practicing lawyer for 15 years specialising in commercial law, debt recovery, property, litigation and insolvency. Sarina also has a personal passion for sports and entertainment law.
Regarded as the clients’ lawyer Sarina can provide her clients with a commercial and realistic approach to their legal issues.
Sarina is known for focusing on her clients’ needs to ensure that every matter is delivered seamlessly and to a consistently high standard. Sarina is also known for her practical sense for meeting her clients’ requirements.
Sarina works on matters in most states of Australia and undertakes work for clients including major banks, leasing companies, public companies, insolvency firms, corporate firms and individuals.
Sarina holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Diploma of Legal Practice and is admitted to practise in New South Wales and Victoria. She currently holds an unrestricted practising certificate in New South Wales.
Sarina currently sits on Womensport and Recreation NSW board and is a director of the Coogee Diggers’ Club (Coogee Randwick RSL Club). She is a trustee of GALFA Public and Charitable Fund and assists with the coacing of Sydney University Womens AFL team. Sarina is also the President of Try Girl Tri Inc triathlon and running club. She is also a founder and director of Wood Street Wines Pty Ltd.
Jessica Hurford – Director
Jess has over 16 years commercial experience in sport and is currently heading up Client Relations at Sports Marketing and Management. SMAM are the commercial agent for numerous sporting bodies including the Australian Olympic Committee and the Gold Coast 2016 Commonwealth Games. Jess is also part of SMAM’s consultation team to the International Olympic Committee which works to develop Olympic marketing globally through National Olympic Committees.
Jess began her career in Australian sport with sports rights holders including the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and the Australian Rugby Union. For the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France Jess was placed for two years in London to manage the commercial program for Europe and the UK. After this she took on the role of Director of Corporate Partnerships for the British Olympic Association in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games. From 2008-2011 she also held an honorary position on the Board of Australian Business UK.
Jess brings her lifelong sporting passionate and a career of commercial sports experience to her Board position with Women’s Sport and Recreation NSW.
